Dangerous: The Double Album by Wallen, which was released in January 2021, became the only country album to spend the first seven weeks at No. 1 in the Billboard 200’s 64-year history in February 2021. As of May 31, his third studio album, One Thing at a Time (2023), had spent 12 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200, and all 36 of its songs had made it onto the Billboard Hot 100. This broke the previous record for the most songs by a single artist to appear on the chart. The single “Last Night” became Wallen’s first single to reach the Hot 100’s peak position in 2023. Several records have been broken during Morgan’s 12-week run, including one that Billy Ray Cyrus had held for 31 years.

On May 13, 1993, in Sneedville, Tennessee, Tommy and Lesli Wallen welcomed their first child, Morgan. Lesli worked as a teacher while Tommy briefly served as the pastor of a nearby church. In his twenties, the family relocated to Knox County, where he attended Gibbs High School and received his diploma. He played shortstop and pitcher for the school’s baseball team, and he had intended to play in college, but his ulnar collateral ligament was torn during his senior year.

Wallen studied the violin and the piano when he was younger. He grew up listening to a wide variety of music, with his father introducing him to classic rock standards. In his teenage years, he was drawn to artists like Lil Wayne, Breaking Benjamin, and Nickelback.

After high school, Wallen worked in landscaping and expressed disappointment at not being able to continue his baseball career. He has described his early adulthood as being aimless. He rekindled his love of music and started to pick up the guitar. He had developed a love for country music and modeled his style after artists like Keith Whitley and Eric Church.
